Bangkok--Sep 26--Siemens Information and Communication Mobile
China's leading GSM mobile operators China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC) and China United Telecommunications Corporation (China Unicom) have once again commissioned the Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group (IC Mobile) to expand their mobile networks. Mr. Rudolf Klink, Senior Vice President, Siemens Information and Communication Mobile, disclosed that "The agreement for network expansion in China is one of Siemens' success in telecommunication business in Asia Pacific region in which we also foresee the highly growth of the market. According to Siemens' marketing research, penetration rate of mobile subscribers in Thailand in 2000 is 5.9% or 3.65 million and was expected to be around 11.5% or 7.2 million in this year. As part of the order, Siemens will also be installing its core network component "Power CP" for the first time in China. This is a new mobile switching system which will increase and optimize network capacity. The CMCC order is worth 128 million USD and is to be completed by the end of November 2001.
Siemens IC Mobile was awarded the order from China Unicom worth 68 million USD for the provinces of Shanghai, Fujian, Wuhan, Guizhou and Qinghai. It entails supplying mobile switching systems and new base stations, as well as setting up intelligent network services. These expansions should be carried out by the end of 2001.
