ASIANET: September 11th Fund Reaches $60 Million

United Way and New York Community Trust Establish Toll-Free Hotline and Website to Expedite Donations

Donations pledged to the September 11th Fund, created by United Way and New York Community Trust to aid victims and their families following Tuesday's terrorist attacks, have surpassed $60 million in the three days since the tragedy.

United Way of New York City and New York Community Trust are now working with various emergency services agencies to determine where resources are needed most, and how relief services will be provided in these areas. All contributions -- 100 percent of each donation - will be applied toward relief efforts.

In addition, more than 12,000 pledges, totaling more than $1.4 million, have been made via the Internet alone -- an average of 5 to 10 pledges per minute.

In the event an individual would like to donate their tax refund check directly to the September 11 Fund, they can do so by signing the back, and writing "Pay to the order of United Way -- September 11th Fund."
