SINGAPORE, Feb. 26--PRNewswire/Asia-AsiaNet
Bombardier Business Aircraft enjoyed a banner year in new aircraft sales in Asia-Pacific during 2001. The company's wide range of business aircraft continues to garner strong interest among operators while market research indicates a potential market for 80-110 new business jets in the region within the next five years.
(Photo: Bombardier captured orders for more than a dozen new aircraft during the past 12 months, with interest displayed in virtually every business aircraft model offered by the company.
This sales success in Asia-Pacific was further underscored recently with the decision by Singapore Airlines (SIA) to exercise options for two additional Bombardier Learjet(R) 45 super-light business jet aircraft for specialized pilot training.
"The Asia-Pacific market is responding very favorably to our comprehensive family of business jet aircraft," said Mike Fahey, regional vice-president of sales, Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Middle East, Bombardier Aerospace, Business Aircraft, during Asian Aerospace, being held Feb. 25 to March 3 in Singapore.
"The additional order from SIA, coupled with an order for a Bombardier Learjet 45 aircraft from Cathay Pacific early last year, further confirms the aircraft's position as the preferred aircraft for advanced pilot training among commercial airlines," stated Mr. Fahey. He noted that one of the Bombardier Learjet 45 aircraft ordered by Cathay Pacific has already been delivered to BAe Systems Flight Training (Australia) Pty. Ltd., to begin training Cathay Pacific pilots.
Sales success
Four Bombardier Challenger(R) 604 business jet aircraft were ordered by Shandong Airlines. One of the fastest growing airlines in China, Shandong is a launch operator of Bombardier Flexjet(R) Asia-Pacific.
In 2001, Subic International placed an order for a Bombardier Continental business jet and took delivery of its second Bombardier Learjet 45 aircraft for its charter operations.
A firm order for three Bombardier Challenger 604 business jet aircraft for use by the Government of Australia as part of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) special purpose aircraft project was placed during 2001. Based in Canberra, they will transport government officials across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
Two Bombardier CRJ* regional jets configured as business jets were ordered through Poly Technologies of China. Both aircraft are scheduled to enter service in 2002 with the China Ocean Aviation Group.
In early 2001, the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) ordered a third Bombardier Global Express aircraft for flight inspection and airways calibration within Japan. These tasks require excellent handling at low altitudes and numerous low-speed approaches to airport runways. The first Bombardier Global Express ordered by JCAB, was recently delivered out of completion.
Growing market
There are currently nearly 60 Bombardier business aircraft in active operation throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Additional aircraft have been sold to investors in the region, but are currently based elsewhere.
Bombardier Aerospace recently delivered the first Bombardier Global Express aircraft into Hong Kong; the aircraft is on static display at Asian Aerospace. The company has sold several Bombardier Global Express aircraft to customers in Australia, China, Japan, Korea and Malaysia in recent years and the aircraft continues to spark interest from potential customers across Asia-Pacific.
