Bangkok--Jun 5--Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide WINNERS OF CASTROL CHAMPION'S CHALENGE 5-ASIDE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT WILL BE PRESENTED WITH TROPHY BY DAVID BECKHAM Castrol, the world's premier engine lubricant specialist, invites football teams to compete in the Castrol Champion's Challenge 5-aside Football Tournament to be held on June 24th, 2003. This challenge is organized as part of Castrol's unique promotional campaign which will give football players, fans and consumers a chance to see David Beckham live in Thailand. The Castrol Champion's Challenge is organized in conjunction with the Sports Authority of Thailand. It gives six local football teams a unique opportunity to meet their football hero when he visits Bangkok as part of Castrol's promotional drive. Mrs. Kunnikar Kanatharana, Regional Marketing Manager, Castrol (Thailand) said, "During the visit by David Beckham to Bangkok as Castrol spokesperson, we will be organizing a lot of activities, one of which will be the 5-aside futsal tournament, a warm-up highlight before the main event. We organize the tournament because we want to inspire teenagers, who have David Beckham as their idol, to believe in their potential to realize their dreams. In addition, I think something related very much to football will be a great activity befitting our soccer superstar Beckham." Last year, the company organized a massive campaign for the launch of Castrol Power1ƒ in Asia Pacific and lucky winners from Thailand and other countries had a chance to spend five days in the UK, soaking up the sights and sounds, culminating with the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet Beckham himself. This time around Castrol is bringing him to Thailand to give more local fans a chance to greet and meet with the soccer icon in Bangkok. Castrol Champion's Challenge 5-aside Football Tournament in Thailand will be held alongside the similar tournaments in Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam. The one in Thailand will also include the two competing teams from Indonesia, who will vie for the top spot with the six local teams on June 24th. Mrs. Kunnikar added, "It's going to be a very interesting tournament where the public audience can enjoy seeing for free on June 24th as Thai teams are trying to keep the special trophy at home and Indonesian teams will not give in easily. We have to thank the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) and the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) for their cooperation and support in organizing this event." Santiparb Tejavanija, the SAT Governor, said, the SAT is very pleased that Castrol can create a special event like this. Meeting with the football superstar is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for these footballers and audience as well. The SAT will be responsible for registering and recruiting football teams to compete on that day and will be coordinating with agencies concerned to make this event as memorable as possible for local football fans and for David Beckham as well. Registration details are available through the SAT. The tournament on June 24th will feature competitions of eight teams, two from Indonesia and six local teams. The preliminary rounds will be held at the SAT's sport court and the championship match between the two final teams on the next day. Each team will be provided with sports gear and Bt20,000 budget. The winning team will receive a trophy presented by David Beckham, the first prize money worth Bt30,000 as well as Castrol products worth Bt30,000. The second prize for runners-up includes Bt20,000 cash and Castrol products at a value of Bt20,000. All six teams that reach the preliminary rounds will also get a chance to meet Beckham. Castrol's unique association with Beckham is based on the brand's promise of winning performance, and Beckham certainly captures that spirit. The company plans to bring David Beckham to Bangkok as means to say thanks to Castrol's loyal customers, most of whom are football fans as well. The football icon David Beckham will come to Thailand on June 25th, 2003. During his Asia promotional tour, he will also visit Japan, Malaysia and Vietnam. Mrs. Kunnikar added that, "We continue to create another campaign to say thanks to our loyal customers in Thailand again because we want to deliver the message to them that we really appreciate their loyalty. To thank them, we will keep on providing them with special offers they will definitely enjoy. As we realize that most of them are football fans and really adore David Beckham, I'm sure they will never trade having a close encounter with Beckham with anything." Consumers from now on can join Castrol's Champion campaign by sending their entries with a cap of Castrol Power1ƒ GTX or Magnatec to "Jor Sanam" program on Channel 7 at PO Box 72 Hua Mark, Bangkok, 10243, before June 18, 2003. Lucky draw winners will get a chance to participate in the campaign and meet David Beckham up close and personal in Bangkok on June 25, 2003. Other prizes, valued at a total value of Bt.1.6 million, include gold necklaces and David Beckham polo shirts. For those who want to take part in the football tournament, please contact the SAT's Sports Organization & Welfare Department at 0-2319-8901, 0-2318-0948 for more details and application.
