Bangkok--Nov 5--Japan Foundation
The Japan Foundation, Bangkok and LIDO Multiplex proudly present the Japanese Film Festival from Friday 21 - Sunday 30 November 2003 at LIDO Multiplex (Siam Square).
The Japanese Film Festival of this year features a series of love films. From the past up to now, there has been diversity of love in Japan; not only the love between boys and girls but also the love toward family, brothers, sisters, and the same genders (gay and lesbian). Under the theme of love, 10 selected films will be shown at LIDO Multiplex (Siam Square).
Twilight Samurai (2002), directed by Maestro Yamada Yoji (The director of Tora-san series), will be the premier screening of the opening day. The film, in which the love of a low-class Samurai toward his family and his childhood friend is depicted through Yamada's heartfelt eyes, has been awarded in almost all festivals in Japan as the Best Film in 2002. The screening of this film will be one of the highlights in this year's film festival.
Another highlight will be Gomen (2002) directed by Togashi Shin. The film, in which a first love in childhood is depicted with a sense of humor, has been popular and critically acclaimed in Japan in 2002. It might be stimulating to see the movie, with the comparison of My girl (Fen Chan), a Thai movie depicting a first love in childhood in Thailand. The film has been popular and critically acclaimed in Thailand as well.
The other 8 films are also all masterpieces in each era and they still have great influence on the contemporary directors not only in Japan but also in the world. We hope that the audience will fully enjoy the diversity of love through film. The schedule of each screening is as mentioned in the attached sheet. The schedule might be changed without any advance notice. Please check the latest schedule on the home page of the Japan Foundation at www.jfbkk.or.th
