BenQ Recognized for Nine Product Designs in First Year Participation of the G-Mark Awards

BenQ today was recognized for its innovation in product design with nine G-Mark awards (Good Design Awards). The nine awarded products span from a full range of BenQ product lines. Adding to BenQ’s accomplished list of 2004 design awards, such as the iF Design Award and IDEA Design Award, this year marks BenQ’s first year of participation in the G-Mark Awards of Japan. The awarded BenQ products include the DC C50 digital camera, U-Disk flash drive, Joybee 200 digital audio player, Joybee 125 digital audio player, FP231W LCD monitor, PB2240 projector, PB7200 projector, 5250C scanner and the Joybook 7000. “It is indeed an honor and privilege to be recognized with nine G-Mark awards, because it comes from Japan, a nation renowned in its own right for producing innovative product designs,” said Manfred Wang, Director of the Lifestyle Design Center. “In the future, BenQ will continue to strive in bringing consumers vivid and original product designs that offer universal enjoyment.” Known prior to 1997 as the Good Design Selection System, the Good Design Award System was established in Japan in 1957 to increase awareness of good industrial design in that nation. At present, 70% of Japanese consumers recognize the G-Mark Awards with further research showing that 40% of Japanese consumers are influenced by the awards when purchasing products. The G-Mark Awards evaluate industrial design in a number of categories including architecture design, communications design and product design. Each entrant is judged on a wide-range of rigorous standards that include criteria such as safety, functionality, originality, ecological soundness and leadership in the humanization of technology.
