Leading global manufacturer of heavy trucks and buses selects WatchGuard as the Firewall/VPN solution provider in Korea
WatchGuard Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: WGRD), a leading provider of network security solutions, today announced that Scania Korea has selected WatchGuard Firebox Vclass security appliances as its firewall/VPN solution.
With an avalanche of viruses impacting Scania’s network each year, Scania set out to review the options available to safely connect regional offices and dealers across the Korea Peninsula to the head office in Seoul. Following a review of solutions from several vendors including Cisco, Scania Korea selected WatchGuard Firebox Vclass security appliances – including the V80, V60 and V10 models– to run a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connecting its head office, regional offices and branch offices.
Scania’s IS/IT Division Team Manager in Korea, Mr. Jung-Tae Park, said: “We were looking for a robust, fault-tolerant security platform, as well as advanced product features and high performance, and WatchGuard’s Firebox Vclass appliances fit our needs perfectly.”
In addition to increasing the reliability and security of its network, Scania Korea’s implementation of a VPN has resulted in significant cost savings for the company. Instead of large numbers of costly point-to-point and Frame Relay lines, the company now only has point-to-point lines between its headquarters and regional offices with MyIP ADSL links connecting the branch offices, sales offices and dealerships. The implementation has enabled Scania to establish a highly efficient and encrypted VPN at low cost resulting in a considerable reduction in communications expenses. In addition, it has helped enhance productivity and greatly improved security. The Firebox Vclass solution offers effective protection from attacks at the application layer through integrated intrusion prevention and content filtering capabilities, making it easier to enforce internal security policies and procedures.
Jeff Hurmuses, managing director, Asia Pacific, for WatchGuard said: “Our key focus for this project is to deliver a robust, feature-rich, high-performance security platform that addresses Scania’s stringent security requirements. I’m very pleased that Scania has chosen WatchGuard as its security appliances partner.”
The WatchGuard Firebox Vclass line of security appliances includes the V100, V80, V60, V60L and V10 appliances, which are specifically designed to address the performance and flexibility needs of a wide range of medium-sized enterprise customers running distributed networks and data center environments.
