As the tenth anniversary celebrations of Change for Good come to a close, the fundraising partnership between British Airways and UNICEF is delighted to announce that it has raised a remarkable ?20 million (1,500 million baht) over the past decade.
The donations of loose change made by British Airways customers have directly benefited UNICEF’s work to improve the lives of thousands of children in over 50 developing countries.
To mark the beginning of the tenth anniversary of Change for Good, Her Majesty the Queen visited Heathrow Airport last May to honour the programme and members of British Airways cabin crew who are instrumental in raising money.
Lord Puttnam, president of UNICEF UK said, “This has been a fantastic year for Change for Good. A year that started with a visit from Her Majesty The Queen has ended with the news that ?20 million (1,500 million baht) has so far been raised to help children across the globe - what an incredible result.”
Sir Rod Eddington, British Airways’ chief executive, said: “It is a reflection of the generosity of our customers and the dedication of British Airways’ staff that Change for Good has been so successful over the past decade. Long may it continue!”
Highlights of Change for Good’s contribution to UNICEF include:
giving ?1 million (75 million baht) to support UNICEF’s vital emergency work in the region affected by last year’s tsunami.
donating a total of ?1 million (75 million baht) to UNICEF work in Mexico City since 1994. The latest donation of ?150,000 (11.250 million baht) supports the protection of street children in the city
rebuilding a dilapidated primary school in Nigeria including furnishing classrooms, providing toilets, running water and supplying teaching materials for the 3000 pupils
sponsoring a national immunisation campaign in Zambia making it possible to immunise over 1.2 million children against polio.
Presently, British Airways operate British Airways operates 14 non-stop daily flights to Bangkok-Sydney and Bangkok – London.
