Bluescope and ITV donate homes for tsunami victims

BlueScope Steel has donated steel products worth Bt 1 million to ITV’s ‘Ruam Mue Ruam Jai relief fund’ to support victims in Phuket who lost their homes to the tsunami. BlueScope Steel (Thailand) Limited and ITV have donated 16 houses to the 16 families in the fishermen’s village at Patong. The houses, which were built with the help of students from Phuket Technical College and Pang-nga Technical College make advantage of BlueScope Steel’s innovative steel solutions. Mr. Ian Dickson, President of BlueScope Steel (Thailand) Limited, said that the company was committed to support programmes to help people who suffered from the destructive tsunami. This project is in addition to over Bt 36 million of donations made by BlueScope Steel and it’s employees to assist those affected by the tsunami across Asia. “Our products are light and easy to erect and we were able to complete the construction in only four weeks. Steel products are ideal in these circumstances, if compared to traditional construction,” said Mr. Dickson. BlueScope Steel has a history of supporting emergency relief building across Asia. Since the late 1990’s BlueScope Lysaght has supplied more than 11,000 low cost houses, schools and medical clinics for flood relief in the Mekong Delta region. More than 100 houses supplied for flood victims in the north of Thailand in recent years have already been moved by the Thai Government to the southern province of Pang Nga to support immediate housing needs for tsunami affected people.
