Bangkok--26 Apr--eTurboNews

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) is appalled and saddened by the bomb attack in Dahab, Egypt on Monday April 24. We offer our sincerest condolences to those affected by this horrific attack. The attack is yet another example of terrorist groups' attempts to undermine confidence and cause widespread destruction and chaos. WTTC commends the authorities for their speedy and effective response and continues to support the Egyptian government as they move forward with development plans. Jean-Claude Baumgarten, WTTC President said, "Although the short-term impact of these attacks on tourism in Egypt may be significant, the long-term outlook remains positive. Egypt has a thriving Travel & Tourism industry, accounting for 15 per cent of total GDP and over 2 million jobs. We are confident that, as after recent attacks in Sharm-el-Sheikh, the government will put in place policies to support and encourage the continued growth of the industry." The Council urges the international community to continue to travel in order to defeat the terrorists' aims. Travel can defy terrorism by encouraging and enriching exchange of customs and educating each other in the diverse cultures our world has to offer.
