The inaugural flight of Air Seychelles to Thailand landed with great fanfare last night at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. All 222 passengers and 10 cabin crew were welcomed at the airport by children waving small Thai flags and a long-drum dance, a rousing dance traditionally performed on special occasions.
Executive Vice President and Deputy General Manager of Suvarnbhumi Airport, Flying Officer Chaturongkapon Sodmanee, and Ms. Watanyu Sirichanya, Managing Director of TT Aviation Co., Ltd., the airline’s GSA in Thailand were on hand to greet the flight’s captain and crew as well as Mr. Trevor Fox, Air Seychelles’ Ground Services Manager, while other airport staff presented each passenger with an orchid-and-jasmine garland as they disembarked from the aircraft.
Due to the increase in tourism and trade between the Republic of Seychelles and Thailand, Air Seychelles will offer one non-stop weekly service between its capital, Mahe, and Bangkok, using the newly-acquired Boeing 767-200ER aircraft called ‘La Belle Creole’ (The Beautiful Creole), a name given in line with the airline’s motto – ‘Flying the Creole Spirit’. Flying time between the two countries is approximately 7 hours and 10 minutes.
Air Seychelles, the national airline of the Republic of Seychelles, began its operations in 1978 as a domestic carrier. It was not until 1983 that the airline expanded its wings overseas to Europe with Frankfurt and London being its first two international destinations. Approaching its 30th year in the aviation industry, Air Seychelles now flies to Mauritius, Johannesburg, Rome, Paris, London, Frankfurt, Singapore and Bangkok, and possesses one of the youngest fleet in the Indian Ocean of two Boeing 767-300 and one Boeing 767-200 aircrafts. The national airline of Seychelles is gearing up for the delivery of two of the state-of-the-art Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner in 2010.
