As part of its Asian launch, The History Channel (HISTORY?), which is aired on True Visions Channel Analog 23 or Digital 48, has teamed up with True Visions Plc and the International School Association of Thailand (ISAT) to kick-off the ‘Photos for the Future’ project today nationwide, empowering its viewers to share their histories and become the link between the past, present and future.
The aim of Photos for the Future is to create a lasting visual record of life over the past century in Thailand and other countries in Asia. This collection of personal photographs and stories generously ‘donated’ by the public will be kept safe for future generations and made available in an online archive open for public viewing.
Whether these photos were taken 80 years ago or just 8 months ago, any photo which tells a story, is welcomed. HISTORY seeks photos that help mark a moment, a period or an event in history – photos that show the changing faces of familiar local streets, fashion trends or customs from generations before. Even photos of your family’s very first television set or car, grandparents’ escapades or your adventures to places and continents far and strange, these moments captured on film may just find their place in the virtual archive of Photos for the Future.
“Photos for the Future is an important initiative for the HISTORY channel. It is part of a global campaign that has run successfully in many parts of the world. And we are now launching it in Thailand. We believe that in every home there are special photographs that hold not just precious sentimental value, but also possibly valuable historical significance. We would like to invite everyone to step up and proudly share their photos together with unique personal stories behind them as part of a collection for future generations. We hope this photo gallery will result in a uniquely Thai photographic tapestry that will be enjoyed for years to come, and look forward to submissions with much anticipation and excitement”, said Louis Boswell, General Manager, AETN All Asia Networks
President of ISAT, Ms. Usa Somboon added, “History isn’t something which happens just in text books. Everyone has their own history, and I believe this campaign will also help further enhance family activity, enabling children to learn about ‘history’ in a fun and personal way. ISAT will, therefore, be inviting all our member international schools in Thailand to promote Photos for the Future as an extra curriculum activity”.
True Visions will be assisting in publicizing this project through its cable channels. “We are delighted to be part of this worthwhile initiative. As adults, we become so bogged down in our daily working lives that we often forget about the truly precious moments that we should pass on to our children. Photos for the Future will help us revisit those moments, and provide a channel for those treasured and historical moments to be preserved for the future generation”, said Sanguan Saruayjirawat, Senior Marketing Manager of True Visions Plc.
