Bosch Group remains firm on its long term strategy to promote the research and development work on technologies that protect the environment and conserve resources. Next to its successful hybrid project, the group has moving forward to the development of automotive lithium-ion batteries and expanded to the new area of solar production. Bosch Thailand, an affiliated company of the Bosch Group, aiming to create awareness and promote the creativity idea of the Thai young generation for making our world green, has launched the innovation contest campaign “Innovation for Green Environment” inviting university and vocational students to participate for a chance to undergo an intensive technical training and to win a scholarship fund support.
Mr. Jochen Reik, Managing Director of Robert Bosch Thailand, an affiliated company of the Bosch Group revealed today that the company is consecutively staging its Bosch Innovation Contest campaign for the second year, as there were a very positive feedback received from students of both university and vocational institutes from the last year contest.This year, ‘Innovation for Green Environment’ is set as the theme for this year contest. “We aim to support the creative idea of the young students and to let them work together and transforming their idea into practical solutions that could contribute to the clean energy and environment for Thailand. They will have the chance to learn how to work in team.” said Jochen Reik.
Green technologies research and development is one of the key strengths and the area of focus of the Bosch Group. An example for the Green Bosch Automotive Technology is the success of its hybrid project. Follow by the expansion of the group’s research and development work for developing high performance lithium-ion batteries to be used in an electrical motor of a driving system through the setting up of ‘SB LiMotive Co., Ltd.’ a fifty-fifty joint venture company between Robert Bosch GmbH and Samsung SDI Co., Ltd. in 2008. The series manufacturer of highly efficient lithium-ion batteries customized for automotive requirements plan to market worldwide from 2011.
Going beyond energy efficiency, greater effort of Bosch Group is seen from its investment harnessing and utilizing renewable energies. In August 2008, Bosch has acquired a major shareholder in ‘ersol Solar Energy AG’ of Germany, who develops, manufactures and sells wafer-based silicon solar cells, and also manufactures thin-film modules. This acquisition will further expand Bosch position in the area of renewable energies. Additionally, Bosch has set up a regional headquarter for Research and Advance Engineering in Singapore to study technological trends and market opportunities in the Asia-Pacific region, identify local technology leaders and search for challenging research subjects. This set up has made Bosch becomes closer to the market in this region and Thailand will also receive the benefit of this study.
About the contest, applicants must be vocational or university students, aged between 16-25 from the faculty of Engineering, Architecture, Computer design or Industrial design. All submissions must hand in a drawing sketched of the invention on A1-sized (84.1 x 59.4 Cm) paper with clear concept description, applicant name, institution name and address at the back of the sketch. The Important criteria is that every proposed innovation must be equipped with at least one of Bosch’s products, i.e. automotive aftermarket spare parts, power tools, or products from the Bosch security systems. Estimated cost is to be stated in the proposal. A maximum of 10 short-listed projects will be selected by honorable judges to undergo the final round and to produce its prototype. Bosch will provide supported fund for the prototype experiment and an intensive training and coaching from Bosch experts.
The winner will receive a trophy and a scholarship fund of 50,000 Baht. The contest is open from July 1 – August 31, 2009. Initial screening will be made during September 1-7, 2009. The winners will be announced on December 7, 2009.
