Receiving the award for the second consecutive year, LG’s Superbrands accolade adds to recent national and international recognition for its innovation, smart technology, stylish design and reliability - which are also widely recognised by Thai consumers - and reaffirms the company’s confidence about becoming Thailand’s number one consumer electronics brand by 2012. Founded in 1994, Superbrands recognizes an elite group of organisations in 86 countries worldwide, which are seen to exemplify best practise in brand management. The Superbrands credential is an acknowledgement from the branding community, represented by the ‘Brand Council’, an independent council of relevant experts who each have a significant standing in the industry. In Thailand, the Brand Council scored a shortlist of 492 brands on criteria including brand quality, brand affinity and brand personality. Key to being named a Superbrand was whether the brand offered consumers significant emotional and/or physical advantages over competitors. The selection process also included an extensive survey of 4,897 Thai consumers to ensure the results represented the views of both experts and consumers. LG’s leadership in the consumer electronics market has also been widely recognized by other prestigious bodies, with recent high-profile awards including a CES Best of Innovations 2011, and a CNET Asia Readers' Choice Gold Award for 3D TV. In addition, LG was recently certified as Asia’s Number 1 in air-conditioners, microwaves, washing machines, and refrigerators by GFK, who also recognized the company as Thailand’s number 1 washing machine manufacturer for 10 consecutive years.
