Bangkok--19 Oct--Leica

Leica Camera AG, Solms, will be presenting a new model in the D-Lux line at this year’s Photokina in Cologne (21–26 September 2010). The LEICA D-LUX 5. In comparison to the previous model, the new camera now has a fast LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON 1:2–3.3/5.1– 19.2 mm ASPH. lens with an extended range of focal lengths equivalent to 24 to 90 mm in 35-mm format. Together with its comprehensive range of features and manual settings, the LEICA D-LUX 5 now offers an even greater spectrum of photographic options – from macro and wide angle architecture and landscape photography to reportage and portrait photography. Its additional 720-pixel HD-video function in memory-saving AVCHD-Lite format and optional accessories, such as an electronic viewfinder or a practical handgrip, open up a whole range of additional photographic opportunities for discerning photographers. Thanks to its outstanding features and numerous extras, the LEICA D-LUX 5 is a truly unique compact camera with system character. In this way, it offers users almost boundless opportunities for transforming their creative ideas into unique images. As Peter Kruschewski, product manager for Digital Compact Cameras at Leica Camera AG, explains: ‘Thanks to its ultra-fast image processing, simple handling and compact form, the camera is so fast and versatile that it allows photographers to capture even those spontaneous, fleeting moments in unforgettable pictures’. The LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON 1:2-3.3/5.1–19.2 mm ASPH. zoom of the D-Lux 5 offers an extremely practical range of focal lengths suitable for a wide range of photographic situations. What’s more, its extremely fast maximum aperture makes it an ideal camera for ‘available light’ photography, too. Whether in adverse lighting conditions or for conscious manipulation of depth of focus, the LEICA D-LUX 5 is the perfect camera for capturing truly distinctive images. The D-Lux 5 features a 1/1.63"-CCD image sensor that is particularly large for this compact camera class. Even at the standard resolution of 10.1 megapixels, this already contributes to a significant increase in image quality. However, the pixel size plays a much more decisive role in picture quality than the actual number of image dots (pixels) in an image. The pixels of the D-Lux 5 are considerably larger compared with those of other compact cameras, a fact that is clearly reflected in the results it delivers. The sensor is finely tuned to bring out the best of the LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON 1:2–3.3/5.1–19.2 mm ASPH. lens and, in combination with the camera’s electronics and firmware, guarantees brilliant, high-contrast images with natural colour rendition and superb sharpness. The D-Lux 5 delivers images in 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 formats as well as 1:1, a particularly interesting format for creative composition, in both capture and review mode. The camera monitor with a wide viewing angle and a resolution of 460,000 pixels displays the images in superb quality before and after capture. This provides photographers with an ideal tool for reliable and precise assessment of images both during composition and after capture. The LEICA D-LUX 5 is characterised by clear lines and an intensely focused design. The typical attributes of Leica cameras are ideally expressed in the formal simplicity of their design and an overall reduction to pure essentials. The LEICA D-LUX 5 offers clearly laid-out functions and can be handled intuitively thanks to its simple operating concept. For instance, the 720-pixel HD-video function is easily started by pressing a special button on the top deck of the camera. Users can also quickly and easily enter manual settings with the innovative ‘Clickwheel’ on the back of the camera. The D-Lux 5 also offers numerous automatic functions for effortless photography. When set, these functions guarantee photographers perfectly exposed, sharp images by simply pressing the shutter release. In automatic mode, the camera automatically chooses settings to match the subject and situation from numerous individual functions. It controls the O.I.S. image stabiliser, automatic ISO selection, face recognition, automatic contrast compensation and the appropriate automatic scene mode. The LEICA D-LUX 5 is supplied complete with the professional image-processing software Adobe? Photoshop? Lightroom?. This software package allows photographers to ‘develop’ the RAW image files delivered by the CCD sensor of the D-Lux 5 to obtain the best-possible image quality. At the same time, photographers maintain complete control over the development process applied to their images. The LEICA D-LUX 5 can be further expanded with a range of optional accessories. The LEICA EVF1 electronic viewfinder is particularly useful when shooting under extreme lighting conditions. It can be mounted on the accessory shoe of the camera and enables Live-View, a function that lets the photographer view the subject through the lens and assess the precise composition of an image just like when using a real system camera. The LEICA CF 22 accessory flash unit provides photographers with even more options for flash exposure and fill-in flash. If required, there is also an accessory handgrip that helps to ensure steady and safe handling of the camera. The range of accessories also features a choice of bags andcases – ranging from an elegant leather case with shoulder strap, an ever-ready camera case with a grip and a separate viewfinder case attached to the carrying strap to a stylish, soft leather pouch. The LEICA D-LUX 5 in elegant black finish will be available from authorized Leica dealers from October 2010. Technical data LEICA D-LUX 5 Lens: Leica DC Vario-Summicron 5.1–19.2 mm f/2–3.3 ASPH.
