Canon, the global leader in digital imaging and IT solutions, today announced record sales in 2012, achieving ten billion baht and claiming the number one position in the DSLR camera and inkjet printer segments. With an eye on capturing the lead in other market segments, Canon has plans for robust expansion through numerous product launches throughout 2013 as part of a diversifying portfolio.
Mr. Wataru Nishioka, President and CEO of Canon Marketing (Thailand) Co., Ltd., said, “Canon is pleased to announce that 2012 was a very successful year, in which we earned 10.248 billion baht in sales. This exceeds our 10 billion baht target and constitutes a new record for Canon Marketing (Thailand).”
Every segment in the portfolio experienced continuous growth in 2012. With sales reaching 5.748 billion baht, Image Communications Products (cameras and lenses) grew the most, up 24% from 2011 as Canon continues to dominate the DSLR segment. Earning 3.201 billion baht in sales, Consumer Systems Products (printers and presentation equipment) grew 12%, with Canon inkjet printers ranking number one for an impressive 13th consecutive year. Business Imaging Solutions products (multi-function copiers and office equipment) grew 12% with sales totalling 1.299 billion baht.
Canon Marketing (Thailand) has also previously announced a merger with Oc? (Thailand) Limited The business integration enables Canon to offer cutting-edge black-and-white and colour digital printing solutions to meet consumer demand and to provide professional printing houses with large-format, digital printing services and printing materials under the new Professional Printing Products umbrella. As with every endeavour, Canon aims to capture the top ranking within this segment in the near future.
One of Canon’s underlying goals is to inspire consumer satisfaction and happiness across all product segments. To this end, 2013 promises to be a dynamic year with new product launches featuring the latest innovations and technologies, including:
1. Image Communications Products (Camera and lenses) – Canon aims to maintain its leading position in the DSLR segment, emphasizing the high quality, leading-edge technology innovation and superior imaging acknowledged by professional photographers worldwide. The Company is now setting its sights on achieving the same success in the compact digital camera segment. Every new model across all categories – the EOS DSLR range, compact digital cameras (IXUS and Powershot), video cameras (Legria), and even portable image printers (Selphy) – offers built-in WiFi in line with emerging demand for instant photo sharing. Canon will introduce the new EOS 6D DSLR (digital SLR) featuring the new EF24-70mm f/4L IS USM lens. The EOS 6D offers built-in WiFi for high-resolution file sharing between cameras, smartphones, other wireless digital devices and social networks, while allowing users greater control over the photographic process. Sporting the new EF24-70mm f/4L IS USM lens, the EOS 6D shoots wide-angle, standard, medium telephoto and macro zoom, ideal for travel, lifestyle shots, portrait work and landscapes, all in one compact, lightweight body. The new compact Canon IXUS 140 offers a powerful 8x optical zoom in a strikingly sleek package. It comes equipped with built-in WiFi and the latest Eco Mode which conserves power, allowing the battery to run up to 30% longer than usual, even with the use of GPS or WiFi. The Digital Canon PowerShot N breaks through the conventional limitations of the compact digital camera, with a unique new body featuring an LCD Capacitive adjustable touch screen, built-in WiFi and creative art and colour effects that can be applied to six shots simultaneously with one touch of the shutter release.
2. Consumer Systems Products (Printers and presentation equipment) – Canon plans to grow this segment to 3.5 billion baht in 2013. Printing equipment remains the core of this segment, but Canon will also expand its market share in consumable products. Consumers should expect to see a new generation of single-function inkjet printers with built-in WiFi, as well as all-in-one inkjet printers in a variety of colours for those with a penchant for design. Canon will also roll out professional-grade printers catering to beginner and veteran photographers, offering sharper imaging, beautiful colour rendition and built-in WiFi, which also make them suitable for all the needs of a Home Use client. Laser printers offer a new function for managing documents, a Thai-language command menu for extra convenience, and WiFi – meeting all the functional requirements of small, medium and large enterprises. The Company will also launch a new, more user-friendly LED Projector that easily projects files from various gadgets, including smartphones, tablets and USB thumb-drives.
3. Business Imaging Solutions (Multi-function copiers and office equipment) – Canon has set an ambitious goal of 20% growth in this segment, with a comprehensive line-up of products and business solutions targeting six key industry sectors. This extends to expansion of after-sale services across the country. Canon is set to release more than ten new multi-function copier models, featuring innovative printing capabilities and efficient document management with intelligent software like uniFLOW, Therefore, and Cloud Connect. A new product line of WiFi-enabled portable scanners will also be launched, compatible with both Mac and Windows, with the capability to read USB files. Canon is committed to innovating products to make document-handling seamless, quick and convenient in answer to the fast-paced demands of today’s working environment.
4. Professional Printing Products (Digital production printing systems, wide format printers and printing materials) – With the integration of Oc? (Thailand), Canon is now set to lead the printing solutions industry, expanding not only its product portfolio but the breadth of business services offered to clients in the enterprise segment. The acquisition allows Canon to offer a truly comprehensive product range including photocopiers, digital printers, professional-grade scanners, and large-format printers and equipment for producing design blueprints, posters and engineering plans. The range includes related consumables for printers and copiers, servicing public and private sector enterprises, as well as dedicated production and printing houses. Combining forces allows clients to benefit from the expertise and proficiency of two big players in the imaging and printing industry, with Canon announcing a clear intent to provide service excellence across the board. In 2013, the Company plans to set up the “Canon Business Service” (CBS) to take on outsourced printing jobs, while introducing the latest high-tech printing solutions including imageRUNNER ADVANCE, imagePRESS, and Oc? VarioPrint.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts undertaken in 2013 will be guided by the “Kyosei” principle which means to grow steadily while respecting human happiness and sustaining a creative and positive world. These values are at the heart of Canon’s CSR activities. The “Clean Energy for Green World” programme, now in its fifth consecutive year, installs wind turbines to generate electricity for rural schools across the country. Canon has organized social programmes such as “Blind Project” teaching the blind to take photographs, and the “Joe Louis School Tour” encouraging the use of drama to teach life lessons; and has engaged in numerous educational, sports, cultural, environmental and disaster relief activities.
