University Supports Thousands of Faculty and Staff Devices with Secure, Reliable Aruba Solution
Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARUN), a leading provider of next-generation network access solutions for the mobile enterprise, today announced that Prince of Songkla University (PSU), a leading research university in southern Thailand, is deploying Aruba wireless solutions on three of its campuses. With the new wireless infrastructure, including Aruba wireless access points, mobility controllers and the AirWave network management system, PSU will provide secure, reliable Wi-Fi for its students and faculty while satisfying its network management requirements.
Prior to installing Aruba’s wireless access points and mobility controllers, PSU was using a mix of other wireless vendor solutions that were unable to support the density requirements as well as address the security concerns associated with the thousands of devices accessing the wireless network. Working with Bangkok-based integrator and partner, Zenith Comp Co., Ltd., PSU evaluated a number of vendors and selected Aruba for its ability to deliver an integrated high performance, secure WLAN solution with easy-to-use, comprehensive network monitoring and management.
“Given the growing number of mobile devices accessing our network daily, we needed a solution that could not only satisfy the high expectations of our students and faculty, but also meet our stringent security requirements,” said Mr. Songkrant Muneenaem, Head of Communication and Network Services Group, Computer Center, PSU. “Working with Zenith and Aruba, we were able to address all of our concerns and select the best possible solution for our campuses. Users from the other ‘eduroam’ academic institutions could also be connected with the Wi-Fi provided by PSU as well.”
PSU’s new wireless solution has been deployed in the Faculty of Science building and dormitories on its main campus in Hatyai and is currently underway at its Trang and Phuket locations. Since deploying the Aruba WLAN, PSU’s IT team has saved a significant amount of time in managing and troubleshooting the wireless network.
“Aruba’s AirWave Management System has allowed us to manage the whole network and use a preventative approach to security threats,” said Mr. Sathaporn Suwan, Information Technology Unit, Faculty of Science, PSU. “AirWave’s ability to provide a comprehensive view of the network was a key reason we chose Aruba.”
The university also plans to expand its use of wireless technology to support its research intense environment and facilitate improved classroom instruction; the university’s ultimate goal is to become a first-ranked, major regional university and a leader in international standards.
