The six schools represented included Kolej Tuanka Ja Afar (KTJ) from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; St. Andrews International School, Green Valley, Thailand; The British International School Beijing, Shunyi; The British International School Kuala Lumpur; Malaysia; The British School of Guangzhou; and Bangkok Prep. The young athletes, aged between 11 and 12, competed in four sports: basketball, swimming, football and athletics.
At the end of the three-day competition trophies were awarded to the most valuable player of the tournament, which went to a student from the British School Kuala Lumpur and the Sportsmanship award went to a student from Kolej Tuanka Ja Afar (KTJ). Outstanding performer awards were given to Sahasawat Ariyanon (Perth) from Bangkok Prep for great performances in football and basketball (top scorer) and winning all his swimming races. Georgina Winters, a Year 8 student was also awarded for Best Performer in swimming. Georgina’s performance was all-round excellent for basketball and she won first place in her athletics event.
Georgina, winner of 4/4 individual swimming races and both A team swimming relays, said, “I had an amazing three days competing in 4 different sports, making friends and trying to survive the hot weather. These are great memories that I will treasure forever.”
Another Year 8 student from The British School of Beijing, Shunyi, Josh Warwick, claimed the games were “an unforgettable 3 days of fun!”
“It is always a good experience when engaging in healthy competition and this FOBISIA event provided the perfect opportunity for all participants to do so. Although success is always at the forefront of every participant’s mind, the opportunity to make friends and meet new people wasn’t overlooked and neither the opportunity to engage collectively in positive sporting behaviour”, said Valerie Thomas-Peter, Head of School.
Bangkok Prep’s elite swimming squad opened the games with top performances, picking up numerous medals in individual races, relays and taking the winner’s trophy home. Other achievements include; 2nd place in girls’ basketball; 3rd place by in boys’ basketball and 2nd place by in boy’s football.
Bangkok Prep joined FOBISIA in March 2011 and students have gone from strength to strength, excelling in various levels of sports competitions held locally and internationally. The event was generously sponsored by Paleo Robbie which provided over 600 healthy meals for all participants, teachers and support staff.
