Bangkok Prep Community raise over Baht 50,000 for Nepal

Press Releases »

The entire school community at Bangkok Prep rallied together in a two-week-long fundraising campaign and raised a total of Baht 52,000 to help the Nepal earthquake victims.
The school will be donating to the Nepal aid through UNICEF.
The Primary Student Council at Bangkok Prep has organised a 'Bring and Buy Toy Drive’ where students donated toys for the sale; smaller toys were sold at 100 Baht and larger toys were auctioned individually.
A ‘Teacher’s Splash’ and ‘Secret Auction’ also took place to raise money. Teachers volunteered to be splashed with a wet sponge, and the highest bidder in the auction got to splat an egg on a teacher. Secondary school students organised House competitions and the school community were asked to contribute to the ‘Nepal Fundraiser Coin Drive’. This venture allowed the Secondary students to collect a roaring Baht 26,153.
A good spirit of camaraderie was displayed among the teachers and students as they worked together to raise funds.
Ten-year-old Year 6 student Pawarisa In-um (Tubtim) said "The student council felt the need to help those less fortunate than us who were affected by the earthquake in Nepal. Since they do not have food or homes and some have even lost their families, we wanted to help in any way we could.”
“We came up with the idea to do a toy drive because the children at our school are lucky and have lots of toys. This way we can recycle our old toys and raise money for Nepal. We managed to raise a lot of money and I feel proud to have been a part of it and happy that there is something we could do."
Valerie Thomas-Peter, Head of Bangkok Prep, said providing relieve to the victims of the Nepal Earthquake was very important to the school’s community.
“While helping our neighbours and the less fortunate, we believe that engaging in such activities provides great educational opportunities on a human scale for our students where they can empathise and realise how fortunate they might be,” she said.
