Mr. Atish Shrestha, Regional Director-Indochina Western Union and Western Union Thailand, said, "We're very pleased to be able to undertake a series of activities focusing on preserving and protecting the environment in a way that has both immediate and long term, sustainable impact. Coral reefs perform a very significant role in the survival of marine ecosystems. Western Union is delighted to have contributed to these and other similar environmental protection initiatives and projects in other communities in Thailand. Coral supports more species than any other marine environment and needs to be protected, both here and in many other beautiful coastal areas in Thailand."
After attending the lecture and demonstrations on coral preservation conducted by the Royal Thai Marine Corps, volunteers gathered to carry pieces of corals attached into cement bases that were used for making coral plugs, before boarding a boat for coral planting under the sea at Koh Kai Noi island. After the coral planting, volunteers also joined a coordinated beach cleaning activity. The program ended with all participants paying their respects to the Prince Chumphon Shrine and Memorial that is located on Laem Pu Chao, Satthahip, Chonburi.
