Oxford International AQA Examinations Launches Globally Relevant Qualifications for International Schools in Thailand

Press Releases »

Oxford International AQA Examinations (Oxford AQA Exams) today expanded its presence in South East Asia by launching its qualifications in Thailand.
The move is aimed at raising educational standards in Thailand by providing high quality English medium qualifications for the increasing number of students attending schools teaching a British curriculum.
Oxford AQA Exams is a joint venture between AQA, the UK's largest provider of academic qualifications, and Oxford University Press, a department of the University of Oxford. Today's launch makes Thailand part of an increasing number of countries to benefit from its qualifications, which are recognised by a rapidly growing number of higher education institutions throughout the US, UK, Canada, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
Oxford AQA Exams provides international GCSEs, AS and A-levels to a growing number of countries throughout South East Asia and the Middle East. The qualifications will initially focus on English, maths and science, with additional qualifications in the areas of business, computer science, geography and psychology coming soon. The portfolio also includes a unique research-based qualification, the Individual Project Qualification (IPQ), which provides an opportunity for students to extend their abilities beyond the A-level syllabus, stand out and prepare for university or their future career.
"Oxford AQA Exams is committed to helping Thai students realise their potential," said Christine Ozden, Managing Director, Oxford AQA Exams. "Our qualifications have been designed to provide students of all backgrounds an equal chance of succeeding based on their subject knowledge and skills - not their literacy or cultural understanding."
Oxford AQA Exams has adopted the new 9-1 GCSE grading system that is currently being implemented in England, replacing the existing A*- G grades. The qualifications are aligned to many of the latest reforms to raise standards in the UK – while ensuring international relevance for students.
"Oxford AQA Exams is at the forefront of educational research," said Andrew Hall, Chief Executive, AQA. "Our qualifications are based upon over 100 years of experience, academic research and international best practice, enabling us to offer schools access to international versions of the most trusted academic qualifications in the UK."
Oxford International AQA Examinations qualifications are based on UK GCSEs, AS and A-levels developed by more than 1,500 teachers, subject specialists and university academics. The qualifications have been developed to ensure that the content is appropriate for students living outside the UK, so that they can achieve solely on the basis of their subject knowledge and skills.
The Thailand launch will take place in Bangkok on the 24th of November at the Marriott Bangkok Sukhumvit. Christine Ozden, Managing Director, Oxford International AQA Examinations will address attendees at the event, which will feature introductory sessions hosted by UK subject experts in maths, English and science. Oxford AQA Exams' qualifications will be available for teaching from September 2017.
