About the speaker: Educated in the US and at INSEAD (EMBA), Chris has worked in Asian ?nancial markets for most of his life with a focus on risk, quantitative analysis, strategy, and research. This includes time at CLSA, Daiwa, and Nomura. He is currently the Head of Strategy at Hex Trust, a Hong Kong-based Fintech company providing digital asset custody with blockchain technology. He is an adjunct faculty in Asian and European universities.
Course Information:
The finance industry is a broad and complex series of interlinked businesses that crosses borders and involves a great deal of government oversight and regulation. Most junior employees spotlight on their specific roles and responsibilities, and in the process they miss the 'forest for the trees’ and often lack a detailed and considered understanding of how the industry works and makes money.
The objective of this course is for students to be able to identify the business models and key drivers of various types of financial firms, analyze the process by which they develop sustainable profitability, and critically assess the implications this has for the industry and their own work.
Those taking this could will be able to:
- Comprehend the business structure and underlying economic drivers of banks, brokers, asset managers, family offices, insurance companies, and other financial firms.
- More importantly, comprehend how history, regulation, and financial drivers have shaped today’s industry.
