AXA Strengthens Cancer Awareness and Prevention Efforts in Thailand

Press Releases »

Cancer remains one of the most pressing health challenges in Thailand, with over 180,000 new cases diagnosed in 2022 alone. By 2045, this number is expected to double, underscoring the critical need for increased awareness, early detection, and proactive health measures.*

AXA Strengthens Cancer Awareness and Prevention Efforts in Thailand

Among the most prevalent cancers in Thailand are liver, lung, and breast cancer**, affecting thousands of individuals and families each year. While medical advancements have improved treatment outcomes, prevention and early diagnosis remain the most effective ways to reduce cancer-related mortality and improve quality of life. AXA Strengthens Cancer Awareness and Prevention Efforts in Thailand

Preventing cancer starts with a healthy lifestyle, including:

  • Limit Grilled and Processed Meats - Thai street foods like moo ping may contain carcinogens from high-temperature cooking. Choose steamed, boiled, or stir-fried dishes and eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
  • Cut Sugary Drinks - Thailand's love for sweet teas and soft drinks contributes to obesity and increased cancer risk. Opt for unsweetened options and stay active.
  • Avoid Smoking and Excess Alcohol - High smoking rates and secondhand smoke raise lung cancer risk. Excess alcohol increases liver and oesophagal cancer risk—moderation is key.
  • Shield from UV Exposure - Thailand's intense sun raises skin cancer risk. Use SPF 30+ sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and avoid peak sun hours (10 AM-4 PM).
  • Reduce Air Pollution Exposure - Bangkok's pollution increases lung cancer risk. Wear masks in high-smog areas and use air purifiers at home.

Regular screening and healthcare access help reduce cancer risk, but financial concerns often delay medical care. Many Thai families face economic strain after a diagnosis, making financial preparedness essential.

Paweena Khemarangsan, Chief Customer Officer at AXA Thailand General Insurance, emphasised the importance of proactive health management: "At AXA, we believe that raising awareness and promoting preventive healthcare is key to reducing the cancer burden in Thailand.
