Bangchak Executive Takes Regional Stage at APPEC 2025 on Carbon Markets and SAF

On the first day of APPEC 2025, 8 September, Mrs. Gloyta was invited to the VIP meet & greet where she met industry leaders, distinguished guests, and S&P Global executives. The guest of honor was Ms. Low Yen Ling, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth of Singapore. This took place prior to the Opening Ceremony, where she delivered the opening speech.

On 9 September, at the Carbon Markets Conference, Mrs.Gloyta joined the fireside chat on "Designing Carbon Mechanisms for Developing Economies". She shared perspectives on Thailand's carbon market and the draft Climate Change Act, marking a major shift from voluntary carbon trading toward compliance-based systems such as an Emissions Trading System (ETS), carbon taxation, and future regulations. She underscored the importance of ASEAN cooperation to enhance regional resilience, while ensuring mechanisms are internationally credible and domestically fair. Together with a representative from Verra, the session explored approaches to designing carbon frameworks suited to the context of developing economies, balancing economic growth with emissions reduction, and aligning policies with global market trends.

The following day, 10 September, Mrs. Gloyta spoke at the Biofuels Conference panel "Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) - Taking Flight in Asia" highlighting the growing demand for SAF, the need for innovative pathways such as Alcohol-to-Jet (AtJ) and e-Fuels, and the role of policy incentives in accelerating adoption. Representatives from Petronas, Airbus, and Qantas joined the discussion underscored the challenges of scaling up SAF, which remains more expensive than conventional jet fuel, while feedstocks such as used cooking oil (UCO) are limited and subject to strong competition. At the same time, the role of regulatory authorities was emphasized in providing data, certification standards, and clear policy frameworks aligned with international benchmarks, to build confidence among producers, airlines, and passengers and to help drive SAF adoption at scale. The session also noted the importance of communication with passengers and the broader public to foster understanding and engagement, particularly by making the environmental benefits of SAF visible and tangible. Initiatives such as Bangchak Group's "Fry to Fly" campaign, which purchases UCO from the public to produce SAF, were highlighted as effective ways to connect communities to cleaner and more sustainable travel.
