Digital Payments in Thailand Continue to Grow

According to the Bank of Thailand's Payment Directional Paper 2025, Thailand's digital payments have advanced and expanded significantly over the past eight years (2017-2024), reaching approximately 650 digital transactions per person per year in 2024. Thailand also leads globally in Fast Payment usage, particularly PromptPay. Mobile banking transactions have increased 25-fold, with PromptPay reaching a peak of 95 million transactions per day (averaging around 70 million daily). In line with Thailand's payment system development, the Bank of Thailand aims to make digital payments a primary option for the public by enhancing PromptPay with innovative services that cater to all user groups.

Businesses Reshape Strategies to Keep Pace with Evolving Consumer Trends

Post-pandemic shifts in consumer behavior and lifestyle are driving a dramatic expansion of Thailand's e-commerce landscape. According to insights from SCB's Economic Intelligence Center (EIC), e-commerce is projected to account for 25% of Thailand's total retail market by 2025, a sharp rise from just 7% in 2019. This rapid growth has prompted businesses to rethink their strategies, blending both offline and online sales channels to meet evolving customer demands. Social commerce, the fusion of e-marketplaces with social media platforms, is emerging as a powerful force — particularly among Gen Z consumers, who are entering the workforce and gaining stronger purchasing power.
