Deputy Minister of Digital Economy and Society Visits Ubon Ratchathani to Monitor Key depa Initiatives

Ms. Nan Boontida Somchai, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), visited to monitor the operations of the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa), covering two initiatives: the project to promote the use of 5G digital technology to enhance emergency medical services (5G Ambulance) at the Phibun Mangsahan District Office, and the Accelerate Digital Agriculture & Pitching Day event for the Lower Northeastern region, held under the One Tambon One Digital Season 3 (OTOD #3) program at the Sunee Grand Hotel.

In the morning, Ms. Nan Boontida presided over the handover ceremony of the 5G Ambulance to Phibun Mangsahan Hospital and viewed a presentation of the digital technologies installed in the emergency medical vehicle. She subsequently attended a presentation on approaches to promoting the application of digital technology and innovation to enhance the efficiency of healthcare services (Digital Health Application) and area-based cooperation. The event was attended by Ms. Manatsawee Subphrom, Chief District Officer of Phibun Mangsahan; Dr. Chaiwat Darasitchana, Deputy Chief of the Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Public Health Office; Dr. Thanong Khamsri, Senior Medical Doctor and Director of Phibun Mangsahan Hospital; Dr. Supakorn Siddhichai, Acting President/CEO of depa; Mr. Pondchai Homcheen, Executive Vice President of depa; along with medical personnel, executives and representatives from various agencies who extended a welcome.

Ms. Nan Boontida outlined the Ministry's mission across several dimensions with direct impact on the public, including the establishment of the Anti-Fake News Center Thailand to protect citizens from scammers and misinformation; Digital Community Center to improve quality of life and narrow the digital divide for people in remote areas; and efforts to raise awareness of safe digital technology use, such as the disclosure of personal data and the application of digital technology in agriculture, trade, services and public health.

She commended the 5G Ambulance project as beneficial to the public and assigned depa to continue expanding its implementation. She also expressed interest in depa's Cloud Transformation project to upgrade cloud infrastructure for local smart cities, particularly the digital health data storage service that uses a health data as a cloud-based data storage device. This service will enable public health officers to record patient data in the field accurately and reliably, replacing traditional paper-based records, preventing data loss, and increasing the efficiency of patient visits all of which represent an elevation of digital services for the Thai public.

In the afternoon, Ms. Nan Boontida toured an exhibition of smart agriculture digital technology services at the Accelerate Digital Agriculture & Pitching Day event for the Lower Northeastern region, and presided over the award ceremony for the winners of the Digital Agriculture Pitching Day. She also presented digital technologies to communities supported under the OTOD #2 project. The event was attended by Mr. Narong Thepsena, Governor of Ubon Ratchathani, along with executives from agencies under MDES in the area.

Ms. Nan Boontida said that MDES is tasked with comprehensively improving the public's quality of life through agencies under the Ministry such as depa. Today's activities, she noted, provide support from the earliest stages cultivation and crop management through digital technology. She also cited the role of National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT) in enabling technology to function even in remote areas, as well as Thailand Post Company Limited, which serves as a distribution channel for farmers' produce to be sold nationwide via ThailandPostMart, a homegrown Thai digital platform. She described the day's activities as a platform for communities to learn, experiment, and discover how technology can help solve local challenges and improve quality of life.

"Over these two days of activities, some community members and farmers may have had their first experience pitching their ideas or presenting proposals to seek support, as well as building useful new skills. I congratulate today's award winners, and those who did not receive an award will certainly take away valuable experience and knowledge from participating in the program. I would also like to thank depa for the successful organization of today's event, as well as the digital entrepreneurs who contributed their digital services to help uplift Thai communities and farmers," said the Deputy Minister of Digital Economy and Society.

Dr. Supakorn stated that the 5G Ambulance project and the Accelerate Digital Agriculture & Pitching Day event exemplify the application of digital technology to solve problems and create opportunities for the public across different contexts from enhancing public health services to strengthening the capabilities of farmers and communities in line with MDES policy to make technology a tool for developing Thailand's quality of life and grassroots economy.
