GULF empowers communities with 'GULF Care' disaster preparedness initiative, equipping youth in Songkhla with vital life-saving skills for emergency and flood response

The initiative stems from GULF's firsthand experience during the severe floods of 2025, during which the company provided critical relief to flood victims by distributing over 9,000 'GULF Care' relief bags and donating two motorized flat-bottom boats to residents in Chana and Hat Yai districts, Songkhla province. Building on this commitment, GULF launched the 'GULF Care' this year to pass on knowledge for combating disasters. The initiative is designed to empower youth—who serve as a vital pillar of their communities—to safely and effectively protect themselves and assist others during emergencies. The comprehensive program combined theoretical insights with hands-on simulations for over 600 students and teachers from Chana Chanupatham School. Key training modules covered various disaster scenarios, including short circuits, fires, floods, and earthquakes, with practical exercises focusing on disaster prevention, situational assessment, basic firefighting and fire extinguisher operation, CPR, first aid, and emergency evacuation drills.

Ms. Kwanchanok Chaikaew, a Grade 10 student who lived through the previous floods, shared her reflection, "When the floods hit previously, we received weather warnings but underestimated the situation, leaving us entirely unprepared. The aftermath brought immense loss. This training has taught me the vital importance of proactive planning, which can save lives and property. I am deeply grateful to GULF for giving us this hands-on experience so we can protect ourselves and our loved ones."

Ms. Kulwanee Lamlee, a Grade 11 student, highlighted the practical safety skills she gained, "During past floods, the water rose so fast that our only strategy was moving belongings to higher ground and stocking up on food. Today, I learned crucial safety protocols, like shutting off the main power breaker to prevent short circuits and how to safely assist an electrocution victim without direct contact. I like that we practiced real skills that we can actually use in real-world emergencies."

Ms. Maneerat Sukko, a Thai language teacher at Chana Chanupatham School, emphasized the value of experiential learning over traditional classroom education, "Today's workshop went far beyond the textbook standard. The students engaged in real-world simulations for floods, fires, and life-saving CPR. On behalf of the school and students, I want to thank GULF, the power plant, and all partners for delivering skills that will truly safeguard our future. We hope to see this wonderful initiative become an annual tradition."

This initiative embodies GULF's core philosophy, "Powering the Future, Empowering the People," which seamlessly integrates infrastructure development with improving the quality of life for all. Furthermore, the project aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
