Bringing together 35 Thai artists across poetry, visual art, film, sound, and performance, the project expands poetry beyond the written word, questioning what poetry might be in the contemporary Thai context. The works are accessed by dialing +66975310708 or through permanent telephone installations at Bangkok Kunsthalle and Khao Yai Art Forest. Each call plays a recording at random, forming a private encounter between artist and listener—an artwork that exists only for the duration of the call.
Across the selection, poetry emerges not as a fixed form but as a site of expansion—ranging from intimate voice messages and algorithmic speech to chance-based compositions and ritualized sound. Yet, the curation is rooted in Thailand's rich sonic landscape, the project weaves together multiple languages, regions, and cultural registers—from street vendors and Muay Thai commentary to regional dialects and monastic blessing. In doing so, Dial-A-Poem Thailand proposes both poetry and Thainess as fluid, unfinished conditions—continuously shifting, and perpetually becoming.
Dial-A-Poem Thailand launches on 24 April 2026 at 6pm at Bangkok Kunsthalle.
