Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) is advancing its sustainability efforts through a strategic partnership with PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (PTTGC). Under the "From Kitchen to Creation" initiative, used cooking oil generated from on-site food operations is collected and converted into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)—a cleaner energy source that plays a vital role in reducing carbon emissions from the aviation industry. This initiative reinforces QSNCC's position as a green convention center that meets international standards and supports sustainable events, while contributing to broader efforts to drive environmentally responsible practices across the MICE industry.
The collaboration builds on QSNCC's strong track record in waste reduction and resource efficiency. In 2025, the center successfully diverted over 68,000 kilograms of food waste and used cooking oil from landfill—equivalent to planting more than 2,700 trees—and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by over 24,000 kilograms of CO?.
QSNCC adopts a comprehensive waste management approach from source to end-of-life. Food waste generated from events is processed and repurposed through innovative methods, including conversion into feed for black soldier fly larvae, which is further developed into organic fertilizer for plants and vegetables. Additional food scraps and surplus bread are redistributed for aquaculture and livestock use, helping to create value from waste while supporting local communities.
Meanwhile, used cooking oil from food preparation within the venue is collected under the "From Kitchen to Creation" initiative and converted into SAF. This clean energy solution plays a key role in reducing aviation-related emissions and supports the transition toward a low-carbon economy.
Surapol Utintu, Chief Executive Officer of QSNCC, said: "QSNCC is committed to creating long-term value across economic, social, and environmental dimensions by embedding sustainability into every aspect of our operations. The 'From Kitchen to Creation' initiative reflects our approach to converting used cooking oil from our operations into clean energy, while ensuring that other forms of waste are effectively managed and repurposed to generate broader environmental and social benefits."
"We also continue to collaborate with partners across sectors to minimize food waste and promote proper waste segregation among our staff, clients, suppliers, and visitors—ensuring that resources are managed efficiently and landfill waste is reduced to the lowest possible level," he added.
Beyond its collaboration with PTTGC, QSNCC works closely with sustainability partners across the public, private, and community sectors. These include the Department of Climate Change and Environment, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Thai Beverage Recycle Company Limited, SCG, Advanced Info Service Public Company Limited (AIS), and BSGF Company Limited, as well as partners in the food and agriculture sectors, including food operators and fish farms. Together, they aim to reduce waste across all streams—food waste, recyclables, electronic waste, and used cooking oil—while transforming waste into valuable resources and delivering measurable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
