On 8 August 2026, Sun PhuQuoc Airways (SPA) officially launched its direct service between Bangkok and Phu Quoc, becoming the first Vietnamese full-service airline to operate the route. As the airline's sixth international route, the new service further strengthens connectivity between Phu Quoc and the region's key tourism and aviation hubs.
Flight 9G702 departs Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok at 1:10 PM and arrives at Phu Quoc International Airport at 2:30 PM. The return flight, 9G701, departs Phu Quoc at 10:35 AM and lands in Bangkok at 11:55 AM. The route operates one daily round-trip service, reducing travel time between two of the region's leading tourism destinations to just one hour and 20 minutes by direct flight.
SPA's entry into the market not only provides passengers with an additional travel option but also introduces a new standard of service and passenger experience on the route. Across its network, Sun PhuQuoc Airways is developing its "Resort in the Sky" model, progressively enhancing its services in line with international five-star standards so that every journey becomes part of the holiday experience.
From the Sun Executive Lounge and next-generation passenger cabins featuring La Festa's signature fragrance—exclusively created for the five-star La Festa Phu Quoc, Curio Collection by Hilton—to wireless in-flight entertainment, checked baggage, meals tailored to each fare class and refined onboard service, every touchpoint has been carefully designed to provide passengers with a relaxing and seamless travel experience.
To celebrate the launch, SPA is offering promotional one-way fares all-inclusive from THB 2,250 on the Bangkok-Phu Quoc route from 1 to 31 August 2026. Passengers travelling to Phu Quoc will also receive complimentary tickets for the Sun World Hon Thom Cable Car, priority access with WOW Pass and discounts of up to 30% on accommodation, dining, spa and entertainment services across the Sun Group ecosystem.
The value of each journey is further enhanced through Sun Signature, Sun Group's loyalty program. Members can earn points from every flight and redeem them for reward tickets, checked baggage, seat selection and a wide range of privileges across the Sun Group ecosystem. Members of the program's two highest tiers can also access global payment benefits through co-branded Visa cards issued by NCB.
As one of Southeast Asia's largest aviation gateways, Bangkok is expected to create new opportunities for Phu Quoc to attract a more diverse range of international visitors. According to data from Phu Quoc International Airport, air services connecting Bangkok and Phu Quoc recorded nearly 159,000 passenger movements during the first seven months of 2026, representing a 57% increase compared with the same period last year. The figures reflect the continued growth in travel demand between the two destinations.
A representative of Sun PhuQuoc Airways said: "Passengers travelling on the Bangkok route tend to fly internationally more frequently and have high expectations for punctuality and service quality. Through our full-service model, we aim to offer passengers a new travel option while contributing to the growth of two-way passenger traffic between Vietnam and Thailand through one of the region's most dynamic aviation hubs."
Just over four months after launching its first international route, Sun PhuQuoc Airways has expanded its presence to Taipei, Seoul, Hong Kong, Chengdu, Singapore and Bangkok. Looking ahead, the airline plans to further expand its network to Kuala Lumpur, India, Japan, Russia and Kazakhstan.
Supporting this expansion is the airline's fleet investment roadmap, which aims to increase its fleet to 32 aircraft in 2026 and introduce wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft into service from September. The additional operating capacity will provide a strong foundation for Sun PhuQuoc Airways to continue enhancing its service quality in line with international five-star standards, while further expanding Phu Quoc's connectivity with international markets.
