Countdown to the launch of “Mixt Chatuchak”, a new shopping landmark on 10-rai in Chatuchak Weekend Market.

19 November 2018: Siam Piriya Development Co., Ltd. is set to open Mixt Chatuchak, the one and only new shopping center in the world-famous Chatuchak Weekend Market in July next year. Built on 10 rai of land, the mall will be open 7 days a week, giving regular Chatuchak weekend shoppers – both Thais and tourists – a new shopping experience with well-selected 700 retail shops spread over 60,000 square meters. Mixt Chatuchak is designed to serve customer demand by maintaining the unique style of the famous Chatuchak market with enhanced facilities under one roof. The shops will be specially selected to respond to shoppers' needs and the mall will provide parking for 700 cars. The opening in July, 2019 will strengthen SME operators in line with government policy. Interested business operators and retailers can now book space in the project. The outlook of retail industry is very positive, with 97 per cent of customers still shopping in offline stores and shopping malls. In addition, Omni-Channel strategies, providing a unique experience, and personalization also offer good opportunities for the retail industry.
Mr. Miporn Chaiyupatumpa, Executive Director of Siam Piriya Development Co., Ltd. said the company is developing Mixt Chatuchak as the only mall in the middle of Chatuchak weekend market. TripAdvisor has named Chatuchak weekend market as the top shopping spot in Bangkok and it also holds the record as the world's biggest weekend market. This comes as no surprise as it offers an extensive range of unique products at very affordable prices. The market is also a popular hang-out for tourists in Thailand. All these ingredients combined make Chatuchak market a strategic location for SME operators, the group making up Mixt Chatuchak's major target. The company hopes the mall and its facilities, which include a 700-car parking area, will further complement the existing SME operators in the weekend market and draw an even greater number of shoppers.
"We believe that the opening of "Mixt Chatuchak" will be well received as it will complement and strengthen the position of the Chatuchak weekend market, which is already a globally popular shopping spot. Although consumers are increasingly turning to online shopping, which has seen 8.5 percent growth in 2018 according to ETDA, the information on consumer spending from Statista and PwC indicate that the majority of shoppers still prefer offline stores – 97 percent in Thailand, 91 percent in the United States and 83 percent in China. We also see new opportunities for retail business in the digital era which are Omni-Channel that blends shopping in a physical store with the online world, providing a unique experience, and personalization that meets customers' demands. We will have SME shops from Chatuchak market in our mall and they'll be offering a wide range of unique products, which will be accessible everyday, as our shopping mall will be open 7 days a week" said Mr. Miporn.
Mr. Miporn added that in addition to supporting SME operators, which I s in line with the government's 4.0 policy, Mixt Chatuchak also plans to join up with startups in the retail industry to offer an Omni-channel experience to keep up with technology in the future.
Mr. Sirichai Praphanturakij, Executive Adviser to the management of Mixt Chatuchak of Siam Piriya Development Co., Ltd., said that Mixt Chatuchak will be a five-storey building on 10 rai. The building will be 350 meters long with total space of 60,000 sq. meters. It will have a parking facility for up to 700 cars. The mall will house 700 retail shops screened by the company under the "Chatuchak Selected" concept. The mall will also have space for holding major events, an area for 300 temporary sales stalls and a good food court. It is poised to serve as a meeting point 7 days a week not just on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
"Chatuchak is very accessible as it can be reached by bus, car and train - both from BTS (Mo Chit station) and MRT (Chatuchak station). The area has high potential as Bang Sue is being developed as a railway hub. Bang Sue Grand Station will draw a number of people in the area. The Mixt Chatuchak targets retailers and shoppers at the Chatuchak weekend markets including tourists. It will also serve people coming to the area via BTS and MRT. The mall will attract customers with a strong mix of retails products divided into 12 different zones including women's shopping, young mothers, kids' fashion, vintage, accessories, arts, home decor, souvenir and crafts, soaps and spa, leather goods, food & cafes and a marketing event zone with 300 temporary shops," said Mr. Sirichai.
The Mixt Chatuchak shopping mall is scheduled to open in July 2019. Construction is now 80 percent complete and open for bookings. Several retail operators have shown interest in booking space. The opening of Mixt Chatuchak will create a phenomenon, becoming a new landmark in Chatuchak market.
