Recently, Gulf Development Public Company Limited (GULF) organized "GULF Sparks Energy" project for the third consecutive year, bringing energy knowledge and awareness directly to students. The program aims to enhance understanding of energy sources, electricity generation processes, fuel types, and energy conservation among a total of 600 students across three provinces: Wiangkaen Wittayakhom School and Chiangkhong Wittayakom School in Chiang Rai, Ban Sa Ngao School in Loei, and Ban Pha Tang School in Nong Khai. The initiative seeks to instill an appreciation for energy and natural resources while encouraging responsible and efficient energy consumption among youth.
Mr. Chayachat Chiuo, a Grade 11 student from Wiangkaen Wittayakhom School, Chiang Rai, said, "Previously, I had learned about renewable energy such as solar cells from school and self-study. Through this project, I learned that hydropower is a renewable energy source that can generate electricity continuously, both day and night, without running out. In contrast, solar energy may not produce enough electricity when sunlight is limited. For our community, I believe hydropower is the most suitable option because it is close to the Mekong River, making dam construction possible. It is a natural, clean, and safe energy source for the community. I would like to thank the GULF team for sharing knowledge about different types of energy. I really enjoyed the activities because they encouraged teamwork and unity among friends. I hope to join more fun activities like this in the future."
Mr. Ekaphon Keawkanta, a chemistry teacher at Wiangkaen Wittayakhom School, Chiang Rai, stated, "The GULF Sparks Energy project allows students to think and learn through hands-on experience, rather than relying solely on textbooks. The knowledge gained can be integrated into classroom lessons and helps spark students' creativity. We would like to thank GULF for organizing this activity and hope to continue collaborating on similar initiatives in the future."
Ms. Praweena Sritharathikhun, a chemistry teacher at Chiangkhong Wittayakom School, Chiang Rai, expressed, "Normally, students learn about energy only in the classroom without hands-on practice due to limited equipment. This activity, however, helped them better understand electricity generation from renewable energy sources, including hydropower, wind, and solar energy. Students can apply this knowledge in school, at home, and in their communities. We hope GULF will continue to organize this program every year and sustain the GULF Sparks Energy project in the long term."
Ms. Supansa Intanai, a science and technology teacher at Ban Sa Ngao School, Loei, added, "On behalf of Ban Sa Ngao School, I would like to thank GULF for organizing creative and beneficial activities for students for the third consecutive year. The GULF Sparks Energy program allows children to learn and experiment with real equipment not found in textbooks in a fun way. This leads to deeper understanding and awareness of the value of energy. I sincerely hope that GULF will continue such meaningful projects to provide educational opportunities and build a foundation for mindful energy use for future generations of students."
Meanwhile, Ms. Sasiwimon Roikaew, a Grade 9 student at Ban Sa Ngao School, Loei, said after participating in the GULF Sparks Energy, "It was an enjoyable activity full of knowledge about energy—wind energy, solar energy, hydropower, and fossil fuels. Importantly, this activity also helped us practice teamwork and encouraged us to be more confident in expressing ourselves."
Mr. Satit Tiamjansorn, Director of Ban Pha Tang School, Nong Khai, stated, "The GULF Sparks Energy is an important extracurricular activity. It not only promotes learning through hands-on practice in the four energy activity stations linked to the science curriculum, but also aligns with the educational district's policy of encouraging students to apply knowledge in daily life instead of rote memorization. All students were enthusiastic and enjoyed every activity. We are truly grateful to GULF for organizing such a valuable program that enhances students' learning."
The "GULF Sparks Energy" project translates GULF's expertise in electricity and energy into engaging play-based learning activities, designed to be fun, interactive, and hands-on. A highlight of this program is the activity titled "My City, My Energy," where students design model cities with diverse electricity needs. Along the way, they learn about electricity generation processes and the key characteristics of different fuel types through four activity stations: hydropower, wind power, solar energy, and fossil fuels. Students are encouraged to analyze and select the most suitable energy sources for their model cities. In addition, educational materials on energy were provided to all participating schools to support continuous and effective learning.
