Ogilvy Thailand has transformed the unseen struggle of children suffering from RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) into a deeply visceral experience that parents can truly understand.

Too often, warnings about RSV are treated as just another routine piece of medical news. Catch Your Breath: Following your child's heart—and breath When a little one's breathing makes parents feel rather than just know

Today, a significant number of parents still mistakenly believe RSV is simply a common seasonal cold. In reality, as many as 9 out of 10 children will contract this severe virus before their second birthday.

The core communication challenge behind the "Catch Your Breath" campaign—created by Ogilvy Thailand in collaboration with MSD—was not to dish out medical jargon. Instead, it was about shifting the conversation: taking healthy adults and letting them physically feel what young children endure, turning familiar passivity into active awareness, and driving timely protection.

From Hard Fact to Heartfelt: What little ones carry when sick with RSV

Behind the core concept of "From Hard Fact to Heartfelt" was a fundamental question: "How do we make people who have never experienced the impact of this disease truly feel what a child goes through?"

The search for an answer led to a powerful scientific comparison. Medical experts pointed out a key statistic: pediatric RSV patients can see their breathing rate spike to over 60 breaths per minute. To put that into perspective, an infected child has to breathe faster than an adult runner—at nearly double the rate.

The team translated this insight through an experimental short film. Three pairs of parents whose children had previously suffered from RSV were invited to complete a physical fitness test on a treadmill, without knowing the true purpose of the experiment. As the treadmill speed increased, the parents began gasping for air, their breathing rates peaking around 35 breaths per minute.

Only then did the team reveal the truth: that intense physical strain was only half the breathing rate their child endured while fighting RSV.

This firsthand experience shattered old misconceptions, helping parents realize just how much concern is hidden behind a child's wheezing or chest retractions.

"Little Marathoners" and a clever twist on a Thai idiom

The Little Marathoners campaign was brought to life on billboards, depicting young children suffering from RSV through the lens of marathon runners. The imagery mirrors a heartbreaking truth: while adult athletes voluntarily enter a race and push their bodies to the absolute limit, children with RSV are forced to breathe at that same intense athletic pace against their will.

Furthermore, the campaign's Thai tagline creatively reinterprets the familiar Thai phrase "Tam Jai Look" (meaning "to indulge your child" or "follow your child's heart"). By inserting the word Lom Hai (breath) into the middle, it becomes "Tam-(Lom Hai)-Jai-Look"—shifting the definition of parental love from simply spoiling a child to inviting parents to pay close attention and track their child's breathing pattern.

The ultimate goal of this message is to open a new perspective: the delicate, undeveloped lungs of an infant were never designed to exert maximum energy just to inhale air for days on end. It is not something parents should wait to treat after it happens.

Reflecting on the campaign's objective, Farica Agustin Khong, Business Unit Director at MSD (Thailand), noted, "Most parents already appreciate that RSV is serious, but reading a medical fact and genuinely empathizing with what a child goes through are two very different things. This campaign bridges that gap, turning passive awareness into proactive protection."

Tasanai Boonyanet, Chief Creative Officer at Ogilvy Thailand, added, "We didn't want to lecture parents with dry clinical terms about RSV anymore—we wanted them to actually feel it. When doctors explained just how fast a sick child has to breathe, we knew we had to turn an invisible symptom into a tangible reality. After all, to truly understand what someone is going through, sometimes you have to try catching their breath yourself."

The takeaway of this campaign is not meant to trigger panic, but to pass on the power of protection through the hashtag #TinyLungsFightRSV (#ภูมิปอดจิ๋วสู้RSV). It serves as a timely reminder that the peak RSV outbreak season (July-November) is when tiny lungs need a protective shield the most.

Building RSV immunity for little ones and consulting a doctor is like stepping in to take over the baton—ensuring toddlers don't have to run this exhausting marathon all on their own.

When parents grasp the meaning behind every single breath their child takes, RSV prevention is no longer just about illness—it becomes a vital mission to protect the person they love most in life.
