BANGKOK, THAILAND, Dell Thailand has introduced a voluntary recycling   programme   that   offers   customers an avenue to dispose of their used   and   unwanted PCs in an environmentally responsible manner at no cost to them.

Customers   need   only   call   Dell   toll-free   and   press   the   option   for "recycling" to be connected to Dell's recycling representative. Home, small and   medium   business   customers   as well as corporations and institutional customers   can   call   1800-006-009.   After securing the necessary customer contact information, Dell's recycling partner will set up an appointment to inspect   the used PCs that are to be disposed of and address questions that customers may have on the programme.

Also   available   in Malaysia and Singapore, the recycling programme is open to   all   PC   users   in Bangkok, regardless of brands.   To further encourage participation,   customers   may receive a Dell Recycling Cash Rebate Voucher that   can   be   redeemed   against purchases with Dell, depending on the age, condition and configurations of the systems to be recycled.

Said   Dell   Thailand general manager Khun Kongkiet Wangveeramit:   "At Dell, environment     excellence     is   second   nature.     The   principles   of environmentalism   espouse   efficiency,   which   eliminates   waste,   aligning completely   with   the   principles   of our direct business model, ultimately translating   into   better customer value. This recycling initiative clearly reaffirms our corporate values."

By   taking   advantage   of   Dell's   recycling   programme   to dispose of used computers,   customers   free up storage space currently occupied by unwanted PCs while playing an active role in environmental protection.

Mr   Law   Hoe   Yen, Systems Consultant of Malaysian company BCE Software Sdn Bhd,   who   was   among the first to participate in the program, welcomed the initiative,   "Recycling   is   good practice. It is especially encouraging to see a leading brand like Dell making such a program easily and conveniently available."

Dell   has appointed HMR Resources, a unit of the Australian-based HMR Group that   specialises   in   recycling   as   a core activity.   HMR will dispose or stream the recycled PCs in an environmentally responsible manner, complying with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.   Depending on their condition,   the   unwanted PCs will either be de-manufactured with materials reclaimed or remarketed as whole recycled systems for re-use.

"It   is   Dell's   goal   to   be   a   careful steward of the environment and to implement   programmes   and   processes   to   ensure   our   operations   are environmentally   sound.   This is achieved through the integrated execution of   key   policies   such   as   compliance   with   environmental laws globally, prevention   of   waste   and   pollution,   and   design   of   products   with the environment in mind," Khun Kongkiet added.

Dell   designs   products   with   a   focus   on the entire lifecycle, extending product   life   spans   with efficient energy usage, avoiding environmentally sensitive   materials   and using parts that are capable of being recycled at the   highest   level.   Dell's   manufacturing   facilities   based   in   Penang, Malaysia   and   Xiamen,   China,   which   support customer requirements in the region,   are   certified   to the environmental management system standard of ISO 14001.
