Interactivity hits a new high with AXN this July

AXN (Ch.38, UBC), the heart of action and adventure television, this summer raises the interactivity bar even higher with three contests and voting polls that will not only test viewers' predictive powers, but also gives them the chance to decide what they want to see on their action channel, AXN.

The highly popular The Amazing Race 4 is the source of two contests, the first enabling viewers to vote for their favorite and most hated teams, and the second contest is to predict the teams that will be eliminated, and which team will win the US$1million grand prize. The Anime-on-Demand online voting poll gives anime fans across Asia the power to determine which movies AXN will broadcast during the month-long on-air and online 'Salute to Anime' Japanese animation extravaganza.

The contests give passionate viewers across Asia the opportunity to interact with the action-adventure network, allowing them not only the opportunity to determine the channel's programming, but also participate in contests associated with programs which enjoy immense popularity and some of the highest viewership amongst all of AXN's series.

From 4 July to 7 August, The Amazing Race fans across Asia will have the opportunity to guess which team will get eliminated next, and from 8 to 14 August, they will be given the chance to predict the winners of the series. With six teams already out of the race, only six more teams remain in the chase around the world as they attempt to outwit and outrun one another to the final destination. With each entry, contest hopefuls will also have to answer the question "Tell us why you chose them" in not more than 15 words. One winner will be picked each week, based on the correct team prediction and the most creative answer to the question. Weekly winners stand to win Sony Ericsson T310 mobile phones, Sony Clie SJ-22 handheld sets and Yahoo! merchandise. The number to SMS for viewers in Thailand is 1918865.

In the run-up to AXN's 'Salute to Anime!' extravaganza this August, which features the Asia-wide television premiere of Osamu Tezuka's Metropolis, anime fans will have the chance to play the role of "Programming Director" in the Anime-on-Demand voting poll. From 7 to 27 July, viewers must log onto www.axn-asia.com and place their votes for the top three anime movies that they'd like to see alongside Metropolis every Thursday at 10pm from 7 to 28 August, and in the 8-hour anime marathon on 30 August. The OAV titles to choose from include Vandread the Movie, Samurai X the Movie, Alien 9, Boys Be, and four OAV titles from the Darker Descendent collection.

AXN's online and SMS contests and polls have been a huge hit in the past with viewers across Asia. In the 2002 Anime-on-Demand voting poll, over 1.7 million votes were placed in just 30 days, while the recent CSI SMS contests garnered over 14,000 entries.
