Bangkok--Nov 7--Thai Airways International

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited and Lufthansa German Airlines organized a joint cocktail reception in true German "Oktoberfest" fashion   to celebrate a decade of a very special relationship - the 10th anniversary of code share cooperation, chaired by Mr Vasing Kittikul, THAI's Executive Vice President for Commercial, and Mr Michael Erfert, Lufthansa German Airlines' Director for Alliances, at the Royal Orchid Ballroom, Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel, Bangkok.   Over 200 guests attended the event, including Star Alliance General Managers in Thailand, travel and tourism agencies, and members of the press.

"Our increased code share flights reflect the success of our network strategies in improving flight connectivity and providing adequate capacity at Frankfurt and Bangkok hubs.   We will continue working together to maximize the potential of what I like to call the 'Aviation Super Highway' between these major hubs," said Mr Vasing Kittikul, THAI's Executive Vice President, Commercial.

The code share agreement between THAI and Lufthansa was signed in May 1995, in Bonn, the Federal Republic of Germany.   Initially, the code share service between the two airlines covered 41 destinations in Europe, USA, and Asia/Pacific with a total of 620 flights per week. Now, almost 800 THAI-Lufthansa code share flights are operated per week, at 40,000 flights per year, with Lufthansa and THAI's relationship being stronger than ever.

The THAI-Lufthansa relationship mirrors the very strong bilateral government relations that exists between Thailand and Germany, and it also gave birth to the Star Alliance which has now grown to include 16 members, the world's biggest and most effective airline grouping.   With more than 15,000 daily flights and 790 destinations in 138 countries, Star Alliance has become a formidable force in global aviation.

"The 10th aniversary of the code share agreement is evidence of our strong and long standing relationship.   I am confident that our relationship will continue to develop as our enduring partnership and spirit of cooperation grows," said Mr Michael Erfert, Lufthansa German Airlines' Director of Alliances.   "This is indeed a good year for auspicious anniversaries   – as many are aware that Lufthansa is celebrating 50 years of flight this year – and it is 46 years this month since we re-launched our Berlin-Bangkok service.   I am extremely delighted to be part of both celebrations,"   concluded Mr. Erfert.

THAI and Lufthansa look forward for continuing to work together in the years ahead, for our continued mutual success and benefit.
