The conference serves as a unique forum for leading industry and business firms to share their knowledge and experiences on : "How PRODUCTIVITY can be successfully increased through BEST PRACTICES".

In the world of highly competitive marketplace, all companies - from small, growing organizations to huge multinational firms -- need to be alert and be informed at all time of new things that concerned their operations. They need to develop constantly, amid rapidly changing environments, new and better ways to manage their businesses in order to efficiently increase their productivity.

The Thailand Productivity Institute (FTPI) works as an information center responsible for the promotion of productivity enhancement in Thailand. The Institute has been successfully providing and educating Thai's public awareness on productivity for the past five years. On May 21-23, FTPI will organize an interesting conference on "Best Practice and Knowledge Management" at the 4th-floor Convention Hall of the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel, Laksi.

The conference serves as a unique forum for a numbers of leading Thailand-based companies and SMEs to share their experiences, know-hows and techniques on how to apply various business "Best Practices", based on Thailand Quality Award (TQA) framework, to successfully run their businesses.

Mr. Tawatchai Tangsanga, Director of FTPI, said, "Right now, the Institute's main task is to approach government and private sectors to employ the Thailand Quality Award framework in their organizational development to meet international standard. Since the process will help increasing the competitiveness of Thai industries in the global market."

"Today, big and small businesses are all looking for ways or strategies to efficiently manage their operations," Mr Tawatchai said, "They want to be able to effectively compete in the world market, and be well-rounded with the rapid economic changes. And these can only be achieved through knowledge sharing and networking. To assist them, the Institute has come up with the 'Best Practices' program, based upon the TQA framework. The program works as a guiding tool to help participating businesses developing their operation to achieve international standard."

"The program will identify 'Best Practices' on specific areas from participating businesses," explained the director. "Among them, they will then exchange information and know-how on productivity and quality improvement. They will learn from one another's good points and use them to improve their operations. This program is a short cut for them and help saving time and budget. The result is quick and satisfying."

According to Mr. Tawatchai, "Best Practices" is a proven process which has been put into actual practice and accomplished a satisfactorily outcome. For the past three years, the Institute has conducted many researches to form its "Best Practices" database from various companies. This year, 12 successful "Best Practices" organizations have been added to the database, with 22 SMEs are on case-studied basis.

Dr. Panich Laosirirat, FTPI's director of Research and IT, said, "The Institute has invited key management executives from three leading companies - P&G Tradinad (Thailand) Ltd., DaimlerChrysler Co., Ltd. and Thai Carbon Black Public Co., Ltd. -- to be the guest speakers at the conference. They will share their knowledge on how to apply 'Best Practices' process to build new and better ways to work, and succeed in a competitive marketplace. The conference will also see more than 30 case studies, from big businesses to SMEs, being presented."

"Participants to conference will have a great opportunity to learn about 'Best Practices' procedure as well as knowledge management from different case studies. They can then adapt what they have learned from those cases to fit in with their businesses. It is one of the Institute's works to help them discover, understand, and implement emerging and effective methods of improvement."

On the process of how to select and be qualified as "Best Practices", Dr Panich explained, "The Institute has to do a lot of researches, looking at all business establishments in that various categories. This also involved on-site inspection. And to be qualified, the business has to pass the stringent rules governed by the Thailand Quality Award."

Dr. Panich said, "We once looked at a company with a Call Center system. Though the system is good but customers were not satisfied with the service. Moreover, the company has to solve the same old problems again and again. Situation like this disqualified the business from 'Best Practices'. It is also the Institute's ethic not to question of the problems or conduct any further research in case like this, unless we are officially requested by the management."

"The keynote speaker on the first day is Mr. Dave Snowdon, a world-renowned expert in this field who will addressing the gatherings on the trendy 'Knowledge Management' issue," said Dr. Panich.
