A new car sales record: over 1.2 million in 2012, First half of year rose 40.4%, to 606,523 units

Mr. Kyoichi Tanada, President of Toyota Motor Thailand Co.,Ltd. has presided over the 2012 Half Year Press Conference to report the January to June 2012 car sales performance was 606,523 units, increase by 40.4%. The car market in 2012 is adjusted to be projected to grow by 51.1% to 1,200,000 units.

Mr. Tanada said “Total domestic car sales during January to June mark a new record in Thailand auto industry with a total 606,523 of vehicles were sold with 40.4% increase compared to the previous year. The growth is classified into that of 46.3% rise in commercial vehicles and 33.1% in passenger cars. Toyota sold 241,245 units for domestic. The growing domestic sales have been contributed by strong demand in the market boosted by the government subsidy. Besides the vehicle production capability that had been back to normalcy and increasing is another significant driveline”

“Toyota’s first half year sales illustrates the growth of 54.3%, or 39.8% market share, with the trend to see 70.7% increase in commercial vehicles and the increase by 37.4% in passenger car segment.”

With regard to 2012 half year car sales, Toyota exported CBU at 204,554 units which is 50.3% increase compared to the previous year, valued at 92,074 millions baht. Besides, OEM exported worth 31,306 millions baht and the overall income contributed to the country was 123,380 million baht.”

Regarding the trend of the automotive industry in 2012, Mr.Tanada stated “Thus the 2012 total domestic market is projected at about 1.2 million units or 51.1% increase compared to the previous year which will hit the highest figure in Thailand’s historic milestone of auto sales, in which can be segmented to passenger cars about 553,900 units, while commercial vehicles about 646,100 units.”

Mr. Tanada added “In 2012 Toyota’s sales target is projected to be approximately 480,000 units divided into passenger cars around 182,100 units and commercial vehicle around 297,900 units in which is about 244,100 units of 1-ton pickup.”

“For export market, we target to export CBU around 405,000 units, or 61% increase, equivalent to 177,000 millions baht, and OEM valued at 65,700 millions baht, the total numbers of export value is estimated to 242,700 millions baht.”

All of our determination is aimed at accomplishing the Toyota 50 anniversary’s slogan of “By your side, always.” Mr. Tanada concluded.
